Danish pharmaceutical company ALK has chosen Stiplastics to design, develop, and manufacture carrying cases for its Osiris desensitization products for the French market. The innovative new packaging and protection system – developed based on recommendations from allergists and their patients – will help ALK meet its main objective of improving patient care. ALK needed an experienced partner for the project, and, with a network of experts from a variety of fields and a demonstrated capacity for innovation, Stiplastics fit the bill perfectly.

The new carrying case delivers three major innovations: It is quick and easy to open; its ergonomic design makes easier everyday handling, and, it has a compact size for easy storage in the refrigerator.

Two crucial requirements for this type of packaging are also handled by this new packaging system: high impact resistance, since the treatment is packaged in glass bottles sent to patients by mail, and, its simple, clear presentation of the treatment, each bottle comes with its own graduated pipette for better patient compliance.

Hugues Brouard, head of Stiplastics’ engineering department, explained: “ALK provided detailed specifications. However, they also gave us the freedom to suggest innovations to help better align the product with the company’s objectives. Made from a single piece of injection-molded plastic, the case has an innovative system that secures and protects the vial and the pipette, eliminating the need for protective foam and offering patients easy access to easily-identifiable pipettes. We have also used In-Mould Labelling for the label to create a robust surface for product-use recommendations. In addition, the IML label is made from polypropylene, which means that the entire case is composed of a single, completely recyclable material. It was an extremely challenging project, but one that allowed our engineering team to fully express its creativity and flair for innovation.”
