Happy Squad is trying to turn deodorant into a “growing up essential” that feels normal, safe, and even a bit fun. The end goal is to remove the stigma around hygiene conversations between parents and kids. Instead of it being awkward, the brand positions it as just another part of growing up—like learning to tie your shoes or showing up to practice prepared.
It all starts with clean, simple formulas that parents are comfortable with. That means aluminum-free; no parabens, phthalates, or sulfates; and cruelty-free. The company uses ingredients like zinc ricinoleate to control odor without being harsh. So it’s aimed at kids, but designed to reassure parents too. But that’s not enough. When a product enters the market, the formula is only part of the equation. The next crucial step is packaging.
Happy Squad didn’t just pick any deodorant stick; they chose one that actually addresses many of the usual packaging problems. Partnering with Viva, they selected the company’s classic round stick, made in Canada, which already says a lot about quality control and consistency. But the more interesting part is how it’s made and finished.
Instead of printing labels separately and applying them later (which can peel, wrinkle, or interfere with recycling), Viva decorates the pack in-house using in-mold labeling (IML). This means the design is fused directly into the plastic during production; no glue, just one solid piece. The result is cleaner graphics that don’t wear off and packaging that feels more durable, even if it's always tagging along in a gym bag.
It also solves a major sustainability challenge. Because the stick is made from a single material (PP) and the decoration is built in, the whole package can go straight into recycling without needing to be taken apart. Simple, which is how it should be.
For Happy Squad, this isn’t just a packaging change. It’s a move toward something more practical and in line with their focus on the well-being of young teens: less waste, fewer compromises, and a product that looks fun without creating extra problems once they’re done with it.
