Packaging solutions focused on sustainability and innovation will take centre stage on the Berry Global stand (Hall 10, stand D18) at this year’s Interpack.

The return of the exhibition provides Berry’s new and existing customers with the perfect showcase for the wide-ranging design and technical expertise that the company can offer customers throughout Europe. Berry’s 76 European specialist packaging operations in 17 countries mean the company is ideally placed to provide a localised service to customers of any size, supported by its breadth of manufacturing capabilities and scale of a worldwide business.

Agile Solutions

As part of its’ customer value proposition, Berry will be showcasing products available in its Agile Solutions platform, the new service that offers both short lead times and low minimum order quantities, including multi-product orders, to enable customers of all sizes to have fast access to one of the markets widest ranges of high-quality packaging solutions.

Berry will display an extensive range of packs for many different end markets, including food and beverage, personal care, pharmaceutical and healthcare, paint and surface coatings, homecare and building products.

Critical to the company’s product development process is the objective of helping companies meet and exceed their sustainability goals, as outlined in Berry’s Impact 2025 sustainability strategy. Examples on show at Interpack will include its easily identifiable BCircular Solutions products made with recycled content or renewable materials, and products that are designed to improve recyclability, are lightweighted or offer reuse or refill options. These sustainability benefits are incorporated into packs while maintaining their aesthetics and functionality in line with individual brand and product requirements.

Among the many BCircular Solutions highlights will be a lightweighted version of Berry’s 1kg UniPak container, which has achieved a weight reduction of 19% over the previous version. As well as lowering material usage, the new pack has also delivered smarter logistics and enhanced efficiency on the filling line.

Examples of achieving more together through improving recycling and reducing waste include Berry’s showcase of its Worldstar award winning customer collaboration with Werner & Mertz. Berry delivered a bespoke trigger spray head secured to the bottle, whose mono material design is over 97% polypropylene. The spray head also uses 29% post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic and is 18% lighter on average than the current market standard.

Another award-winning solution on display will be paint containers produced as part of a closed loop system. This enables used paint containers to be collected and recycled for use in new containers by ensuring that enough of the residue paint in the containers is removed.

Berry will also provide details of its unique CleanStream® recycling technology, the first closed-loop system to mechanically process domestically recovered household waste polypropylene (PP) for use in contact sensitive packaging. CleanStream® has recently been granted a Letter of No Objection (LNO) from the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA) and is the subject of a “Novel Technology” application under EU 2022:1616 for direct food contact uses in Europe.

Spotlight: Customer Collaboration is Key to Bringing Circular Solutions to Market Faster

Berry Global partnered with Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Company, Inc. to improve the recyclability of food packaging with MXD6, a high-performance barrier solution for extruded articles, such as thermoformed items and extruded plastic tubes and bottles. The MXD6 barrier is recyclable up to 12% and received Critical Guidance recognition from the Association of Plastics Recyclers (APR), validating its compatibility with the Polypropylene (PP) recycling stream. Using MXD6 helps eliminate the performance and compatibility limitations of Ethylene Vinyl Alcohol (EVOH), including limited recyclability and reprocessing issues that cause degradation and contamination, and offers an alternative during material shortages.
