Laminating is the process of sticking different types of film together to create one laminate. The purpose of this is to combine the qualities of various materials to create packaging fit for purpose.

We have narrow width (330mm. max) laminating & coating facilities, which is ideal for short run or development work. Which can either be for our customers laminates or our own or a combination of the two.

We have been involved in a number of customers own developments where under the supervision of our customer. Technical issues and new product developments can be resolved and found by simply providing an experienced machine operator supported by our own technical team.

Also we recover laminates by improving slip, recoating with appropriate lacquer and even oxy-drying to improve running characteristics.

In simplistic terms Pouch conversion is the process of taking a reel of laminate and folding it in various ways so as to transform into a usable pouch. In the process heat is used to form the seals required using constant heat sealers, this providing that the laminate being used has a recognised sealing layer, means that we are then capable of then providing a full pouch conversion facility to printer/laminators with no such equipment.

Here at Moore & Buckle we have 6 pouch making machines which allows us to convert various sizes and types of laminates into finished pouches. We also have the facility to add grippers to a pouch, allowing the bag to be resealed once opened.

We can make all types of packaging bags, including:

- Doy Packs (stand up pouches)
- Back Seam Bags
- Back Seam Side Gusset Bags
- Quad Seal Back Seam Side Gusset Bags
- Three-side Seal Bags
- “L” seal Bags
- Finger lift taped bag options
- Tamper proof bags
- Necked pouches
- Compartmental pouches

Additional things that can be added to your specification include:

- Re-Sealable Grippers
- “V” Tear notches and Nicks
- Euro-slots
- Hanging holes
- Spouts
- K Seals
- Necked seals
- Doy Pack With Euro Hook & Re-Sealable Gripper
- Doy Pack Gusset With Re-Sealable Gripper
- Doy Pack With Euro Hook
- Doy Pack With Re-Sealable Gripper - Gusset

We have made pouches for a wide variety of industries, including food and beverage, aerospace, agriculture, cosmetic and pharmaceutical. Our range of pouches and laminates will almost certainly have something that is right for your product.

We can convert customers own reels in to pouches, or we can create custom laminates to suit the type of product and convert to pouches.

  • Flexographic Printing

In our factory we have the facility to single colour gravure print on narrow width reels (330mm. max). We can also laminate at this width meaning that we are capable of both surface and reverse printing.

For all other printing, the options are restricted to surface printing of which we would outsource to the most cost effective based on print quality required; this from the extensive list of approved BRC accredited suppliers.

Outsourcing means added flexibility in that we can offer all types of printing, including flexographic printing, lithographic printing, gravure printing and digital printing.

We have 6 slitting machines so we are able to handle most slitting requests. Our machines can handle reels up to 1650mm in width and 1000mm O/D but versatile enough to also convert small reels as well with thickness ranging from 12micron to 1000micron.

We specialise in disaster recovery, where a customer may have issues with one of their own reels, such as a crushed core or the reel may have telescoped due to poor winding. Correcting print lead-offs and reversing the winding on reels where sealing layers or incorrect sized cores may be an issue, is also a common fault. Reels may have quite simply been damaged in transit and need checking over as part of the insurance procedure particularly in relation to foreign bodies and BRC regulations.

We are also capable of providing an oxy-spraying facility where a silicon based food approved powder is applied to either surface of the web, with a view of increasing the slip factor of a laminate which is proving difficult to run on a form fill and seal machine.

Technical Services

Since the company’s inception back in 1981 its technical insight and experience has formed the foundations for its growth. This expertise still exists today supported by employees and consultants who work with the customers best interests in mind.

The company has recently adopted a combined BRC/PS9000 Quality management System having attained BRC “A” category accreditation since 2009. This quality system controls all aspect of production from enquiry through to the final product.

Packaging support

We can assist on all new enquiries covering all aspects of manufacturing from artwork through to final pouch conversion.

We can assist in the development of unusual packaging as our machinery because of its speed and age are much more adaptable when looking for something different.

It’s an aim of ours through questionnaires and subsequent trials to arrive at the technical best and most cost effective solution to any enquiry. This will include an assessment on moisture, oxygen and light barriers. We will also consider risks as far as potential migration and de-lamination issues to the final product are concerned, as well as the shelf life requirement of the final filled pouch amongst other things.

Equipment support

Our laminator provides the ability to test and produce laminates for further research and development, using solely customer material, our own or a combination of the two.

Slip factors quite often can cause issues on form fill and seal machines, and we have an oxy-spray unit to assist in increasing slip levels where difficulties are being experienced.
