The recyclability of plastic is one of its core appeals. Due to this, Robinson is on the path to reducing the amount of virgin plastic they use – in other words, they won’t use plastic that hasn’t been used before.

Making Existing Packaging More Sustainable

New packaging solutions are being developed with only recycled plastic in mind. In addition, several of Robinson’s trusted standard packaging categories have been redesigned with plastic weight reductions.

One example is their 1-litre bath and shower gel bottle. Robinson redesigned it for a global healthcare brand. The original bottle, made in 2019, contained 25% post-consumer recycled (PCR) PET; by December 2020, they increased the PCR content to 50%. Robinson is working to increase this to 100% in 2021.

How to Use Less Plastic

By implementing thinner bottle walls, Robinson uses less plastic and makes the bottle lighter. They also added a visual design to the outside that keeps with the brand and strengthens its structural integrity.

The new bottle has been a commercial success during the pandemic, as people have chosen larger capacity containers. As well as the commercial benefits, the bath and shower gel bottle has met both Robinson’s own sustainability targets and those of our customers.
