Tekni-Plex Healthcare has acquired precision extrusion manufacturer Johnson Plastic Group (JPG) as part of a strategy to expand the company’s patient care solutions platform.
Located in Mexicali, Mexico, Johnson Plastic Group specializes in precision extrusions for medical device applications. The company provides complete extrusion solutions into a variety of medical device applications for interventional and therapeutic procedures.
The acquisition expands Tekni-Plex Healthcare’s medical device capabilities and broadens the division’s global footprint by adding a presence in Mexico.
“This acquisition makes total sense for us and improves our ability to service our customers,” said Chris Qualters, CEO of Tekni-Plex Healthcare. “It builds upon our existing solutions capabilities and increases our geographic reach, bringing us close to our key customer base in Mexico and the Baja region. It also allows us to leverage JPG’s expertise across our entire global customer base and healthcare end markets.”
Qualters noted: “The addition of JPG continues to build upon our innovative patient care solutions platform centered on material science and process technologies. We are looking forward to creating an even more robust set of offerings and solutions that help improve patient outcomes.”

Tekni-Plex has signed a definitive purchase agreement to acquire Grupo Phoenix in a deal that will bolster Tekni-Plex’s ability to deliver market-focused, customer-driven packaging solutions, especially in food and beverage markets. Grupo Phoenix manufactures rigid packaging and specializes in innovative and sustainable custom packaging solutions with capabilities in the United States, Colombia and Mexico.
In the current environment where face mask wearing is mandated in many communities, consumers may be more prone to peeling back seals or removing fitments to experience the scent before buying a product. Tri-Seal, a Tekni-Plex business unit, has the solution: Sniff Seal® closure liners, the first liners to enable scent permeation through an induction seal without affecting the seal or compromising the contents.
The latest in unit dose packaging and films for pharmaceutical and medical device applications will be featured by Tekni-Plex Europe at CPHI InnoPack, November 5-7, Frankfurt, Germany, stand 111G70. As a result of Tekni-Plex’s recent Lameplast acquisition, the company will be discussing semi-automatic and fully automatic Pentafill™ fill/seal machines for its injection molded unit-dose packaging.
Tekni-Plex has purchased automation equipment solutions manufacturer MMC Packaging Equipment Ltd. which will become part of Tekni-Plex’s Tri-Seal business. Headquartered in Laval, in the Montreal metropolitan region, Québec, Canada, MMC has a three-decade long reputation as a leading automation equipment manufacturer including cap lining, slitting/folding, assembling and closing systems.
A Tekni-Plex subsidiary has purchased Brazilian closure liner manufacturer Geraldiscos, which will become part of Tekni-Plex’s Tri-Seal business. Headquartered in Santana de Parnaiba, a suburb of São Paulo, Geraldiscos is known for manufacturing innovative closure liners and induction seals for a wide variety of container types including PP, PE, HDPE, PVC, PET and glass.
Tekni-Plex has purchased Italian healthcare packaging company Lameplast SpA from Milan-based private equity firm Aksìa Group. Lameplast will become part of Tekni-Plex’s global Tekni-Films business. Headquartered in Rovereto sul Secchia near Modena, the company is a leading Italian manufacturer of plastic single/multi-dose containers for pharmaceutical, diagnostic, medical device, veterinary and cosmetic applications.
Tekni-Plex has completed the acquisition of three manufacturing facilities from Amcor’s Flexible Packaging business unit. The facilities—located in Madison and Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Ashland, Massachusetts— provide a broad portfolio of sterilizable medical device packaging substrates including coated and uncoated Tyvek, heat-seal and cold-seal coated paper and films, medical grade laminates and die-cut lids and labels.

Tekni-Plex, Inc. has announced a $15 million investment in a new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Suzhou, China, near Shanghai. It represents the single largest recent investment by Tekni-Plex and reflects the growing needs of the Asia-Pacific pharmaceutical and medical device market.
Tekni-Plex, Inc. has acquired the assets of BrunaSeals, Doral, Florida, a leading producer of induction seals and foam closure liners for beverage, cosmetics, pharma and household and industrial chemical products. Going forward, BrunaSeals will become part of Tri-Seal, Tekni-Plex’s global closure liners business unit.
Colorite announces North American launch of Cellene thermoplastic elastomer compounds for medical devices
Colorite, a Tekni-Plex company, is introducing its Cellene line of thermoplastic elastomer compounds to the North American marketplace for medical device applications. Cellene thermoplastic elastomer compounds are suitable for a wide variety of medical devices, as well as packaging and other regulated markets. Cellene compounds are formulated to be silicone, latex, phthalate, halogen and PVC-free using FDA-compliant raw materials to meet USP Class VI and ISO 10993 standards.
Colorite launches new thermoplastic elastomer compound line for medical devices at MD&M West
A line of thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) compounds for medical device applications is being launched in North America by Colorite, a Tekni-Plex company, at MD&M West, February 7-9, Anaheim Convention Center, Anaheim, Calif., booth 2027.
