Local Distilling’s Vanjak Vodka paper-based bottle developed by TricorBraun has earned a 2025 AmeriStar Award in Sustainable Packaging! The innovative bottle is five times lighter than glass, made from 100% recycled materials, and durable enough to protect spirits from plant to pour.

Local Distilling, a valued TricorBraun customer since 2015, launched Vanjak Vodka inspired by founder Jon Guelzow’s experience with family-owned wineries and distilleries. Seeking to align with Colorado’s active, outdoor lifestyle, Local Distilling wanted a lightweight, sustainable alternative to its original 750-mL plastic bottle for the Mountain Traveler edition.

The Vanjak Vodka Bottle

TricorBraun delivered a standout solution: a paper-based bottle with 360 degrees of branding space and a securely sealed foil pouch encased in recycled paperboard. According to a 2024 Life Cycle Analysis by Intertek, the bottle reduces the carbon footprint up to six times compared to glass. Beyond supplying the packaging, TricorBraun supported Local Distilling’s production by arranging a ROPP capping machine rental, enabling the distillery to meet its launch schedule without costly delays.

The Mountain Traveler paper-based bottle has quickly won over consumers. Visitors to Local Distilling praise the packaging’s lightweight feel and aesthetic appeal, reinforcing the brand’s sustainable mission. By combining functionality, environmental responsibility, and striking design, TricorBraun’s solution has elevated Vanjak Vodka’s packaging to a new standard in the marketplace.
