SGD pushes the limits of glass decoration

    • VERESCENCE

SGD is one of the major players in the market for glass bottles in the perfumery and cosmetic sectors.  The company strives to push boundaries so that a bottle is far more than just a container for liquid, but an integral part of the brand. SGD's pioneering glass bottles communicate with the consumer visually and via the tactile, arousing emotions through reflection of the glass with four principal decorating techniques.

    Coloured emotion

For the past three years, the coloured emotion technique has been developed and mastered in the SGD workshop resulting in a practice that has been patented by the company. From crystal to opaque, pastels to shades, and all finishes (pearl, metal, matte, gloss) result in a new dimension of decoration. Within the bottle, the liquid is transformed by the free rein of imagination into aqueous treasure.  For this decoration technique it takes 10 months to verify if the product which the bottle will house is compatible without the use of an inner layer.

    Radiant emotion

Conceived, created, developed and patented by SGD, the radiant emotion technique has been used since 2008. Incandescent luminosity mirrors the richness of the interior and offers a noble character to the glass. As a decoration technique it can be combined with finishes: refined with lacquering, a yellow coating provides the illusion of a bottle filled with molten gold. Simple screen printing is magnified by the mirror effect, continuing as far as the eye can focus. For this decoration technique it takes 8 weeks to validate if the product which the bottle will house is compatible without the need for an inner layer.

    360 degree emotion

An unusual effect is created by this automated technique that allows decoration in areas which cannot be touched by silk screening or printed upon. Colour can dress the bevelling whilst arabesque styling can be used to adorn the bottle's neck. Furthermore, the concave and convex curves can provide a home to designs and logos, and with pure hued metal or intense colours the most unusual projects take shape.

    Printed emotion

With the hot transfer technique, the perfume industry has never been so close to fashion. From a photograph to an illustration, transparent to opaque, whether the text is on one side or another, a bottle can be adorned with print in a single pass.
