    Loss-on-Drying Test

Loss-on-Drying Test: Loss-on-drying (LOD) is determined by heating a sample in an oven to a temperature below its melting point and includes all volatile substances, including water content and solvents. Loss on drying is a non-specific analytical technique that removes not only water from the sample, but also all other volatile impurities such as alcohol. The degree of drying depends on temperature and drying time. analysis of the total water content of an LOD or drug product can include both bound water (e.g. hydrated water) and free water.
